Grow  Beets  Direct in the Ground Now

Plant beets by seed directly in the ground.  Beets grow in cool temperatures so plant as soon as the soil can be worked and you will be eating them in 60 days or so.  Beets  are fairly expensive if you buy them in the organic market. Today I paid $2.99 for 3 beets, a  dollar each.  Since I have rediscovered how much I like them I think growing them would be a good idea.  I live in Arizona so I need to plant now to keep ahead of the hot weather.  Eating fresh organic food is not inexpensive so growing as much as possible even in an urban setting makes a lot of sense. Beets can also be grown in containers and raised beds. If your space is limited, concentrate on  some other high value crops too, like tomatoes, peppers and  specialty salad greens like arugula and herbs like basil and cilantro. Easy to grow and handy outside your kitchen door.

With earthy sweetness and rich colors, beets are a delicious addition to your garden. We show you how easy it is to grow your own.
